Wise Owl Play Therapy welcomes appropriate enquiries from parents and carers, as well as schools, health services, social care, charities, local authorities and other organisations seeking child-centred therapeutic support. Each enquiry is considered individually, with attention to the child’s needs, consent, safeguarding, suitability and the proposed scope of work.

Who can make a referral or enquiry?

An enquiry does not automatically result in therapeutic work beginning. Suitability, consent, funding, professional roles and practical arrangements must first be considered.
The referral and enquiry process
01 Initial Enquiry
A brief overview of the concern, who is making the enquiry, the child’s developmental stage, existing support, consent or parental responsibility, proposed funding where relevant, and any immediate safeguarding considerations.
02 Initial Discussion
An initial conversation may clarify circumstances, referral purpose, expectations, consent, information-sharing, setting, practical arrangements and whether more information is required.
03 Consent and Information
Appropriate consent and parental-responsibility arrangements are clarified. Only information relevant to assessing and supporting the proposed work should be collected.
04 Assessment of Suitability
Needs, existing involvement, safeguarding, communication, setting, attendance, practitioner competence and whether another service may be more appropriate are considered.
05 Agreed Next Steps
Where suitable, roles, setting, consent, communication, review, funding, practical arrangements and endings may be agreed. No standard package is assumed.
